I absolutely agree this would be a good idea. About a year ago, I started on extracting the Habari base framework into what I called "Habari Foundation Classes", but I only got about halfway before I ran out of time. I think separating Habari-the-framework from Habari-the-blog-engine would be a win-win situation. It would make our kernel more generic and give the PHP world a nice framework.
