Doug Cutting commented on HADOOP-1066:
--------------------------------------
This looks great! A few minor comments:
1. The 'news' is a bit out of date. This should be refreshed before this is
committed.
2. We probably don't need to list more than the past few releases in 'releases'.
3. I can't get 'forrest' to build this. I can preview it with 'forrest -run',
but otherwise I get:
{code}
validate-xdocs:
/home/cutting/src/hadoop/trunk/src/docs/src/documentation/content/xdocs/index.xml:26:9:
The content of element type "p" must match
"(strong|em|code|sub|sup|br|img|icon|acronym|map|a)".
/home/cutting/src/hadoop/trunk/src/docs/src/documentation/content/xdocs/index.xml:29:164:
The content of element type "acronym" must match "null".
/home/cutting/src/hadoop/trunk/src/docs/src/documentation/content/xdocs/index.xml:45:11:
The content of element type "p" must match
"(strong|em|code|sub|sup|br|img|icon|acronym|map|a)".
/home/cutting/src/hadoop/trunk/src/docs/src/documentation/content/xdocs/index.xml:57:11:
The content of element type "p" must match
"(strong|em|code|sub|sup|br|img|icon|acronym|map|a)".
{code}
This is with either forrest 0.7 or 0.8. What version are you running?
4. Patches should be relative to the project root, not to src/docs.
Thanks!

> One of our tech writers has been looking at the state of Hadoop
> documentation, and suggests reworking the Hadoop front page to be more than
> just a release page (as it seems to be now).
> Especially in comparison with other other apache project pages, ours is
> uninviting to users unfamiliar with the premise of the project. She's
> suggesting updating the page to include more meta-information about the site,
> in addition to most of the links and news items currently on the page.
