My belief is that the current NNbench is bottlenecked on the network. The 
test-results depend on the network latency between the clients and the 
namenode. That's the reason why you do not see any difference in performance.

In the current run, you probably had one thread per client (or 2 mappers per 
client). Increasing the number of client processes could make the test 
bottleneck on CPU. Once that happens, we can then run 1298 and measure the 
degradation in performance.
