Okay, I see what you mean although it's way too granular for my needs.
Additional info like guest vocalists, etc. tends to go into the comments
when I feel the need to record such things, which isn't often.

Multiple genres might work for me on a band or an album level, but the
notion of breaking individual tracks down that far befuddles my brain.

But, each to their own and all that! :-)

When I download live shows I tend to put 'Live <venue> <yyyymmdd>' in
the title.

Well, I can see a file-type filter like k3b's might be handy and easytag
doesn't have one as far as I can see.

However, it does allow you to display a directory full of files, and
then search for, say, mp3 in the filename. When that search returns all
of the mp3s in the directory you can select them in the way you describe
and then dismiss the search - the files in question remain highlighted
within the file view pane.
