Several of my friends are managers for just such a large firm and take a similar approach to your company Keith. One likes to see a CV no more than two sides of A4 in length, with the qualifications summarised, bullet-point style. If you appear to have what he wants then he and his technical experts ask for the details at interview, usually a phone interview followed by a face-to-face one if he likes you. I've sat in on a few interviews like this and it is interesting to see some great CVs demolished and some modest ones 'upgraded'.
