Bear in mind that NX is no longer Free Software. The older versions were, but they've moved the current release to a proprietary licence. Older versions are still available - and work pretty well, IME. Google also started a fork - see http://code.google.com/p/neatx/ - but that appears to be a dead project now (Google has declared it "finished").
