The station WMLB AM on 1690 kHz, licensed to Avondale Estates, Georgia (but covers that Atlanta, GA market), has since September 1, 2026 dropped their conservative talk radio format and started into an LMA with Heartland Signal. WMLB AM now carries the progressive talk programming of the flagship station of Heartland Signal, WCPT 820 AM from Chicago, IL. This situation would be quite confusing to listeners if you listen to WMLB 1690 over the air now since it announces as WCPT 820 throughout its programming and commercial breaks and even gives the local Chicago weather forecasts(!). I have yet to hear the WMLB ID (as of Sept. 4, 2026) at the top of the hour, but I have not listened to enough of the programming throughout the day if a "WMLB" ID is inserted. Hopefully they get this fixed! The switch in format is quite an abrupt change since WMLB is going from an ultra conservative programming format to progressive programming format. It also harkens back to WMLB in its early programming in the Atlanta market when back in 2004 to 2006 and had the WWAA call letters. The station then carried the Air America Radio network which was a progressive talk radio format. To add to the confusion for the station, the wmlb1690.com website (former web site?), has a large splash page that announces the change but with a significant error in it where it says "WMLB AM 1650" is being sold. The frequency is NOT correct! The sale of WMLB AM does not yet appear at the FCC website as it has not been approved. It is unclear if the sale also includes "wmlb1690.com" (which is still streaming the former conservative talk format!).
