OK Jim, here are notes taken by Dee Knapp with a few minor edits by me.
Perhaps Rick or someone who was actually paying attention could fill in and/or
correct.

Notes of VistA Community Conference Call - April 22, 2005

1. Thanks to Sharon & HP for putting the call together. There is
provision for out-of-the-country participation.

2. Boston debriefing:
  a. Eric Stewart - Wine port; first draft done
  b. Frank Fukunaga and Norman Okamura - VistA Institute -
joint venture WV-Hui-U of Hawaii
  c. VSA (501c6 trade association) Barbara Boykin - core mission:
lobbying/marketing; WorldVistA focus is software &
life cycle and community and as 501c3 is limited
  d. Internationalization: summarized work done & work left to be
done; worked out reasonable framework for opening
international chapters of WorldVistA
  e. Session with Cameron Schlehuber (by phone), WorldVistA and
VSA regarding collaboration: an initiative to resurrect the bidirectional
software gateway; discussed various topics - internationalization
high on list, as well a parameterization (same as VistA Office EHR);
waiting for VA to release guidelines; expecting
something in writing shortly from VA. Result was statement of
intent project by project; VA: Training program &
reference materials; provide training opportunities; existing modules
discussion; CPRS on Linux discussed; also discussed development of
independent verification and validation process for software
developed outside the VA. In verbal stage at this time.
Barbara Boykin did summary - Maury & Barb sent email to Rob
  f. Business Model discussed: Dialects, relationships, software
lifecycle, etc.
  g. George Timson give presentation of FileMan enhancements:
ScreenMan is now mouse aware - semi-gui ScreenMan and
Internationalization; will be talking with Medsphere CEO to making
this available
  h. Marty Johnson - more VistA and MUMPS history before and
after the underground railroad and fire
  I. New England M User Group - $Horolog turning 60,000 days
  j. MDC revival session - changes for mumps standard; dozen
things: support internationalization need translation into other
character sets; have Mumps ASCII 7 Japanese character sets; need
internationalization character set; follow-up and action items;
std is stable not emergency but need act now
to avoid emergency - Unicode is nice because ;you
don't have to have different character sets - Dialog
file has all translations in same global - not really an
issue. if you want to display a screen with Hebrew & Chinese $L
calculation to figure right layout is more easily done with
Unicode; Chris: standard ISO10646; VistA Standard to code
against.
  k. Intersystems was excellent: more meeting rooms; much food &
drink; helped momentum of meeting
  l. Misc : demonstrations; Bhaskar installations - VistA Viva
highlights: two most recent FOIAs, OpenVistA 0.4, the VA
demo with CPRS & populated database, m2web, source code for
vista benchmark, GT.M acculturation CD - ; had people volunteering to
help with funding; combination of hosting cover food and attendees
donations - a first: WorldVistA broke even. Donations vs
meeting fee worked well; will do it again.

3. Defining the next OpenVistA - framework & timeframe: OpenVistA 2.51 &
VistA Viva; next R&D meeting will do lot of work before May 12-15 in
Seattle consolidate all changes to OpenVistA v.4.0 to include DSS life
cycle tools, Mettle Team work, Stonecutter, M2Web, VPE & other tools;
Rick's tool to search all VistA code; need to establish OpenVistA's
pedigree - what is its relationship to FOIA - big deliverable: compare
to FOIA - changes done with series of KIDS patches; Next week on Monday
will put call to vendors for changes they want to include; May meeting
will be documentation & verification & packing; second trace continuing
web interface development for VistA.

4. Quick overview of project ???

5. Two big meetings a year ; small coding & R&D meetings throughout the
year; Next big VistA Community Meeting - Minneapolis in October
27-30-2004 (tentative) - Teamspeak at Seattle meeting-good idea - need
is to have brief report of this meeting - decision: post on Hardhats and
website as well a Friday call; video recap for download.

6. Need open source license

7. VistA Imaging outside VA? Hui compiled code - Jos Puthooran in India
