>From ANSI/MDC X11.1-1995 ! causes a new line operation on the current device. Its effect is
the equivalent of writing CR LF on a pure ASCII device. In addition, $X is set to 0 and 1 is added to $Y. Also: Output operations, except when the form of the argument is *intexpr, are affected by the Character Set Profile output-transform. I'm not entirely sure what that latter statement means but I suspect that it means when you write *13,*10 you do not get the same results as writing !. And with regard to the first statement, note that it says "equivalent". The actions taken may be different when writing to a Unix/Linux host file than when writing to a VT-xxx terminal. tjh -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of A. Remember that the use of the U <device ID> prior to the W command controls the effect of the "!" or control character written. Then you must switch back to explicitly control several IO devices.
