In order to create a "Hospital" in VistA one comes across following
designated entities:


Medical Center
Institute
Facility (This file contains the list of all US Hospitals – 5861 entries)
Division (Medical Center Division)
Hospital Location (Wards, Clinics, Labs)



Question: What is the exact purpose of having the whole list of
hospitals in the FACILITY file?



We assume that MEDICAL CENTER & INSTITUTE are interchangeable terms
for a Hospital

Question: Is the above assumption correct?



While creating a hospital, we adhere to the following hierarchy:



Institute/Medical Center = (Hospital)

                                      Division

                                    Hospital Location



Question: Is the above hierarchy valid?




During Admission, we come across the following fields:

Admitting Regulation
Type of Admission
Facility Treating Speciality

These entries available in these fields seem to be appropriate from VA
point of view.


Question: Are there any dependencies on the above data sets, or are
these just labels to the record? Can we add or delete them without
worrying about their dependencies?
