I've not noticed that at all with Kaspersky, though to be fair everything I've used it on had at least 4 cores and an SSD. That said, my own testing years ago revealed that NOD32's reputation for being light was far from accurate. It may not use many resources, but it was terrible on slowing down the system anyway. I don't care if my AV uses a gig of RAM so long as it doesn't slow down operations I care about.
