I had given up on NOD32 years ago when they released an update that
caused it to constantly scan your internet cache slowing everything to a
crawl. After several weeks with them a)denying that anything was wrong
and b)No fix, I stopped the subscription.

I've not noticed that at all with Kaspersky, though to be fair everything
I've used it on had at least 4 cores and an SSD. That said, my own testing
years ago revealed that NOD32's reputation for being light was far from
accurate. It may not use many resources, but it was terrible on slowing down
the system anyway. I don't care if my AV uses a gig of RAM so long as it
doesn't slow down operations I care about.
