Which might be a problem. If Apple stops being IBM's largest PPC customer, they can't bully them as much for production levels. The XBox360 and Nintendo might mean less chips available for Apple to use.

Anybody notice that this rumor comes up like once every 6 months in the IT industry?

Well, IBM just inked contracts with both Microsoft for XBOX360 and Nintendo
for Revolution.. so uh, I think those will keep it busy.. they probably do
same/more volume then Apple ;)

We haven't cut output or laid anyone off in our chip division. Who knows
what's going on at this point. There have been no official announcements on
our end.

There has been some speculation and rumor about this for a few weeks now, all started by a blurb in the Wall Street Journal. If Apple really does completely ditch IBM and go to Intel, then that obviously is a really, really big deal. Current speculation suggests that Apple will use SOME Intel

chips (like the XScale ARM based chip) in SOME Apple devices, but not their computers, and they aren't ditching IBM. This seems to make much more sense,

but at this moment it is all just conjecture.

We'll see. :)

They only say that they're moving to Intel manufactured chips, not necessarily x86.

I can't see Apple moving to x86. Nobody will buy any new macs until the hardware switches. Why buy into a dead achetecture?
