NT4 is newer than Win95 by 1 yr., has NTFS file system and better
security (I assume) because I downloaded the high-encryption version of SP6.
Anyway, I just read something which may help explain why the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] client won't work. Apparently, Internet Explorer has to be
installed to update the registry with essential GUI DLL's. I just
downloaded IE6 SR1, burned it to CD-R, installed it and it's in the
process of rebooting.
No joy on the GUI version (different DLL error message this time about
User32.dll) and again it wouldn't uninstall so I had to manually go
through the registry and hardrive to delete it.
Hurrah, 5.04 console version works but of course I have no network
connection so it looks like I'll be giving Geeks.com some of my money
afterall. I'll let you know how it goes but right now I feel confident
it's getting close.
What's the old saying about you can never go back? After all the cash
I've spent on "This Old PC" I should have bought XP Home and it would
have been over in 1 afternoon (except for the hardrive replacement).
Still, having never used NT4 before I admit to being curious about it. I
remember the big deal all the PC magazines made about the big
improvement version 4 had over 3.51. @:)>

I think you'd be much, much better off with Ubuntu than Mandriva.
I think you'd be better off with Win95 over NT4 anyway. At least you'd
have Plug and Play, and perhaps FAT32. Considering that both OS's have
gone to the great security dustbin in the sky, it doesn't matter much.
You can still share files & printers with 95.

Well, I didn't call every shop in town but no I didn't come across
anything post-Win95 except NT4. Yeah, the Promise controller came with
pretty much all Windows drivers except 3.1.
