Hey Greg,

Power Chute shows about 250-270 watts being used. That's why I even
bothered asking about the PSU. I have had this PSU for about 2 years and
never had any problems.

My system:
2GB RAM
4 HDs
1 Floppy
2 DVD Writers
4 case fans
p4 3.0GHz
Network card
Hauppauge 150 tuner card
2 USB hubs
Connected to hubs/pc via USB (all the time)
        Scanner
        HP LJ 1200 printer
        Joystick

I am running the latest drivers, should I go back a gen or so? Or load the
latest EVGA ones from their site?

Thanks,
Bobby

New video card
I'd be surprised if this was a power supply problem. That being said, if it
is PSU related, it isn't because the TP480 is too small, it would be because

it is defective. People far too often overestimate what they're really
using. For example, my Smart-UPS 2200 is currently reporting a 37% load. The

2200 is 1600w, so that's 592 watts.

What's on it?

1. Main machine-- X2 4800+ (CnQ enabled), 2GB, 12 HD's, 6600GT
2. Secondary machine-- 2x2400+ MP's, 2GB, 11 HD's
3. 24" LCD and 20" LCD

So four processor cores, 4GB of memory, 23 hard drives, and two LCDs.

More importantly, this is draw from the mains. If you figure 592 watts total

mains draw, subtract 80w for the 24" and 55w for the 20", and figure 70%
average PSU efficiency (Seasonic S12 in one, Antec TP in another), that's
only 320 watts of actual power consumption for two relatively quick,
storage-laden machines at idle. If you bought a Kill-A-Watt meter, I'd be
surprised if you're pulling any more than 280 watts at full load--let alone
480. NVidia, for their part, only recommends a 350w PSU for all 7800 series
cards, including the more power hungry 7800GTX 512MB.

Subject: [H] New video card

Hi all,
I finally got and installed my 7800GS AGP video card. With the benchmarks
below, there was some beautiful graphics. I was amazed.
Compared to my TI 4200, this thing flies. My 3dmark 03 scores went from
1700 to 13097. For completeness, my 3smark 2005 score is 5561 and 06 is
2893. Aquamark before was 16272, after 61484. Not too bad of a jump. LOL.
Now, my question.
In MS Combat FS 3, I will be playing and then lose video after about 2-3
minutes. And the sound starts looping. I have to reset the machine to get
it back. The same thing happened with another game (can't remember which
game now). It plays Quake III fine.
I have an Antec Truepower 480 watt PS. I have 4 HDs, 4 case fans, 1 floppy,

and 2 DVD burners. The 12V lead connected to the 7800GS was connected to a
120MM fan and the two DVD drives. I disconnected the 120mm fan and the card

still did the same thing in CFS 3.
My first thought is that the card is not getting enough power. What do you
all think? Think I need to upgrade the PS?
Without a game running, the APC monitor shows a draw of about 250-270 watts.
Thanks,
Bobby
