Tried the windex on photo paper trick today but it did not help. I ended up calling tech support at Epson and they determined that the black print head was clogged and needed repair. This is the second time this has happenned with this CX4600 and it is only 1 1/2 yrs old. Of course it is out of warranty now but Epson would be glad to let me access their customer loyalty web page and order a new printer at a discount. Not gonna happen.

I am looking at a Samsung laser printer for my father in law. Anyone ever use a low end samsung laser? The model is a Samsung ML-2010. $49.99 after rebate at Newegg:

or this Brother HL-2040:

Any recommendations between these two?

So... has anyone tried this? My father-in-law has a CX4600 all-in-one that gets sporadic use and more often than not is clogged when he wants to use it. He knows to turn off the printer with it's on/off switch when it is not being used, yet it still clogs. It stopped working last week and after running the cleaning cycle a couple of times without success, the cartridges were showing as empty. Put in all new carts and the black does not print at all. Run a cleaning again, and still no black, but color works. Carts are now showing about 1/8 depleted. Grrrrrrr! Going to try the Windex on the photo page tomorrow. If that does not work then may try ordering the Maxpatchink.com cleaning kit.

Was in Comp-USA Saturday talking to an Epson rep. He said to spray a piece of photo paper with Windex and print a multi colored image to clean the heads. It sounds like it has potential.

If anyone tries it, please let us know how it worked out.
