The only really compelling reason to upgrade I've heard is for gamers
who want to be able to take advantage of DirectX10 which ONLY runs on
Vista.

Actually, the only reason to upgrade is Vista 64 which supports above 4GB of RAM. I am running 8GB, and fumbling my way though the learning curve, but I can see why the IT is so upset with vista. MS changed interfaces and ways of doing things for no good reason. ... was it necessary to change windows boot loader.

The learning curve is steep, and really annoying. It is even worse with 64bit because of software limitations.
