Steine,
DO IT. The numbers will never justify it. GBit on CU is better that just 10/100 on a wired LAN. I can see the difference here. I believe it may all be background stuff. But I have no NUMBERS; just "seat of the pants". I did it. I am happy I did. I am now GBit to the ISP (router). And, all the clients seem to talk back and forth better. Perhaps Intel NICs, but I will not go there.
GBit over CU does have good points if you can do it.
Best,
Duncan

I have 2 PC's and 2 one Terabyte NAS boxen, all using wired connections to my router's switch, which only has 10/100 ports. All are currently connected at 100 mbits per second.

All 4 devices are 10/100/1000 capable, so would connecting them to a standalone gig switch and then connecting the gig switch to the router be worth doing?

ie, would I see any noticeable speedup when the PC's and NAS's talk together in transferring files, watching movies, or doing backups and such to and from the NAS's.?

I realize the connection to the router and the internet would still only be 100 megs. :)
