Thanx guys... :)

I knew it would be faster, just wondered if it would be noticeable with HD data access speeds, OS overhead and such going on..

Sounds like it's a worthwhile thing to do..

Ordered an 8 port gigabit switch this afternoon from NewEgg. :)

Cheers.....

Steine,

Good Switch: Dell PC2716............. :)
Can be managed, if you care, but, if you just plug it in and go, it just flat works! I have 2. Great boxes. Folks could argue pricey, but I have no bad to report. If I did not know I had the new Dell Switches, I would think I still might have the old 10/100 Netgear switches I've lived with for the past very many years......(on reliability!)......... :)
The good news is that the whole LAN is FASTER NOW!

I'll rec the Dell 27xx switch!
Best,
Duncan

I have 2 PC's and 2 one Terabyte NAS boxen, all using wired connections to my router's switch, which only has 10/100 ports. All are currently connected at 100 mbits per second.

All 4 devices are 10/100/1000 capable, so would connecting them to a standalone gig switch and then connecting the gig switch to the router be worth doing?

ie, would I see any noticeable speedup when the PC's and NAS's talk together in transferring files, watching movies, or doing backups and such to and from the NAS's.?

I realize the connection to the router and the internet would still only be 100 megs. :)
