File this as a guess. Monitors use different modes.
My older ones made a significant click when switching from the default
BIOS video to the mode Windows uses. I guess one mode (at least)
has broken. Not much help...

I have a CRT Mitsubishi 2040u that started flashing this morning when I turned it on and booted up to XP PRO. I use it as a second monitor to put my scedule. It does not flash on a DOS screen or at POST. It doesn't flash on and off. It is like bars across the screen illuminating brighter then the surroundings that produces a flashing effect. The flashing is continuous.

The first thing I checked was the cable connections. Then I tried a different computer, the 2040u has a switch that allows you to select SVGA or BNC. Once it booted into XP it happened from both computers / and video cards. One a Matrox G450, and the other a ATI 9600 AIW PRO.

But in DOS, black and white screen there is not flashing illumination. It is probably toast but I thought I would ask. Anybody know what might be causing this?
