which is where I run anyway, the default is way too small for these

It is more likely your video card display port can't support higher
resolutions or maybe your display port cable is bad.

HDMI does not support the resolutions that Display port supports. If
it did there would be no need for display port. Check your video card
specs to see what ports support what resolutions.
also why would my monitor have TWO HDMI inputs ?
Same reason your TV does... PC, Xbox, BlueRay, what ever
