My last build was in 2013 ...an Intel® Core i7-4930K on a ASUS E6896_P9X79_WS_ mother board, 64 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport XT and a Nvidia 7010. a few years ago I started to realize that I wouldn't need to go up from here any time soon...if at all. So I purchased a backup of the most vulnerable component =ASUS E6896_P9X79_WS_ mother board. Usually when your motherboard goes you might as well start over. Very rare to have to replace CPU and RAM has a lifetime warranty. Last year I started experimenting and going beyond the BIOS auto overclock of 4.13...but first I picked up a backup of my six core processor on EBAY for a fraction of what I paid for it in 2013 ... just $90. w

My last build was an 6700K w/970 and frankly I haven't yet taxed it. I anticipate in 2027 when Star Citizen is released I might need to upgrade.
