Hehe, blast from the past guys:

Anyone know how to mount a share on the Drobo FS, aka DRDS2-A, which no longer
has support as of 1/27/23 sadly?

I finally found a power supply for cheap on eBay that works last week-but
forgot the login to the unit and can't reset the login account b/c I don't have
the email, or never registered it...do I even need that btw?

So I think there's some data still on these drives that I'd like to get off
now-any way to do that now that I've got it powered up and seeming to work?
Downloaded the Drobo Dashboard software ver 3.5.0 for Windows from Github-yay
for Reddit links! https://github.com/dhomas1/DroboApps/releases

The Dashboard shows a Share labeled "Public" and it's available-and all 4
drives are green-but when I click on Mount it spins for a while and then says
"Drobo Dashboard could not mount this share". Anyone gotten this error before
and know how to fix it-if you can? Or is whatever on here (that admittedly I
haven't ever needed for a decade plus) just considered lost at this point with
no way to recover it?

Just a random idle project at this point, but would love to figure it out if
possible! Cheers all-hope you're all well!

So actually I called Drobo tech support and got a great tech who was on the
phone with me for 1.5 hrs and we talked through a bunch of stuff and I realized
that the new PS had a connector that you could plug into the end (that didn't
fit into the Drobo) that had positive and negative screw terminals...so he
suggested cutting off the old tip, stripping the wires and then putting them
into those terminals.

So I stripped the outside and saw a bunch of thin metal wires wrapped around an
inner white sheath-stripped that off and found another bunch of wires inside
that. Broke up the multimeter and checked the voltages and found the positive
one (the inner bundle of wires inside the white) and plugged that into the
positive and then the other bundle into the negative and took out the drives
and then plugged the PS in and it started up!

Proving it was the PS and that the enclosure was still good. Seemed like it
was perfect but then I moved the cable and it powered off so something is not
quite solid with the connections though I screwed them in pretty tight...anyway
now I know I can just replace the PS, but it looks like they're $50ish...which
brings me to another point...

Since this is an old Drobo FS (out-of-warranty) from years ago and transfers
over the network will be slow, I wonder if I shouldn't maybe get one of those
external Thunderbolt drives (or make my own) so that transfers will be
faster-since the laptop does have an actual Thunderbolt port and would transfer
at the faster rate....

Ran CrystalDiskmark and saw that the main drive 1 x 512GB Samsung 960 Pro M.2
NVMe PCIe SSD (spec Read 3500MB/s - Write 2100MB/s), got Read 2100MB/s and
Write 1200MB/s... and my secondary drive, a 1 x 1TB Samsung 850 Evo SSD (Read
540MB/s - Write 520MB/s (SSD2 - SATA III)) got Read 530MB/s and Write 500MB/s
(interesting that the 960 Pro speeds weren't close to the original rated ones
while the 850 Evo is still pretty close to them!)

So yeah, trying to figure out if it makes sense to get something like this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GBWZJFG/?coliid=I2HMA92G152D7N or if I wouldn't
get the transfer rate needed to take advantage of it and I should just stick
with something slower like the T5 or...?

Thoughts? Thanks for the help so far Lopaka! Can’t believe it's been, what,
20 years since I saw you that one time at E3 right? :P

Do you have the dead PS still? If the wires match you could solder the old tip
and heat shrink wrap the patched area.
