Subject: NISO events in October

Dear members,

I hope to see many of you at the NISO events in October:

First up: October 21 * NISO Annual Meeting and Program
NISO's 2003 Annual meeting and program will be held on Tuesday October 21,
4:00pm-6:00pm at the Westin Hotel-Long Beach, California. Our keynote
speaker is Bruce Perens an outspoken leader in the W3C and open source
community. Bruce is also a series editor for Prentice Hall so knows
publishing and has some thoughts to share on new models for content
delivery. Perens will focus his remarks on IPR and patent issues impacting
standards and the evolution of standards for digital rights management.
This NISO meeting is free - no registration is required. And, it is open
to all -- invite your colleagues and staff to attend and get to know more
about NISO and standards.

You do not need to register for the ASIST meeting to attend the NISO
program. However, the ASIST program has a lot to offer this year: You'll
find schedules and registration information for the ASIS&T conference are
on the ASIST website at: <http://www.asis.org/Conferences/AM03/index.html>.
If you decide to attend the ASIST conference you can register at the
ASIST-member rates; simply identify yourself as a NISO member.

October 29 & October 30: NISO's 2 workshops on OpenURL and Metasearch,
Washington, DC

The workshops are filling up fast! The final agendas are now on the
website -- there's lots of muscle in these events. On both days our
workshop sponsors will exhibit and provide information about their
services. The one day NISO member registration fee is $199; the two day
registration fee is $359 for members. The workshops will be held in
Washington, DC at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) located at 2000
Florida Avenue, NW, Washington, DC

Let October be your month for Standards!
Pat
