Subject: Cost of Conventions

Hey campers. How's every little thing? Sorry I missed Oakland, I really wanted to
go but if Boston is far, Oakland is reeeeally far.

Why not we hold the AJL convention 2007 here in Valencia (Spain). Conventions cost
a pretty penny no matter what they're on about. Might just as well do something
weird if you're going to end up paying for it anyway. The America Cup boat race
will be on. We can watch sailboats while we eat cosher salads and cosher
vegetarian entrees and drink cosher fresh-squeezed orange juice for breakfast
lunch and dinner. (There are 9 vegetarian restaurants in town).

There're a couple of hotels in town with all the comforts of home-away-from-home for about 60 bucks a night. True, you might have to share a bath but therein lies
the enchantment of a real live spanish hotel. If you live on the east coast the
distance is the same from there to here as from there to California.

Another alternative could be the International Youth Hostal System or the local
YMHA, we can take turns cooking in those goofy kitchens of theirs and serve it up university cafeteria style on plastic dishes. Or if it's in San Francisco we can
send out for cosher chinese vegetarian (sans MSG). How about a german beer hall
theme, long tables, flagons of cosher beer, Hebrew National foot-long ball park
frankfurters and sauerkraut. Kosher pizza?

Or perhaps rent a paddlewheel boat and do the Columbia River or the Mississippi.
We can start somewhere on the river of choice and and work our way up (or
sideways) stopping and picking up members along the way until we get to Minnesota
or wherever where we can buy moccasins and eat homemade apple pie.

How's about an island in the Pueget Sound? Hawaii? There are vegetarian caterers
in Hawaii. We can eat cosher sushi and pineapple all day. Now here's a very
rhetorical question for y'all (no need to reply): Why can't it be vegetarian? On the application form under "special dietary needs" we can put "dead-flesh eater" and all those who put a tick on that option can have a little corner with chafing
dishes and some chunks of bread in a basket.

Actually, I'm semi-serious about Valencia.
