The Internet sites archive of the 17th Knesset Elections 2006 is open to public access www.jnul.huji.ac.il In recent years valuable information has been published on the web with out a printed equivalent. This information is no longer accessible when the Internet site ceases to be active, or is updated. As with other national libraries, The Jewish National and University Library (JNUL) began to study the possibility of archiving Internet sites. During the election campaign of the 17th Knesset (Israel's parliament), the library archived Internet sites relating to the elections. The sites were downloaded a number of times, and saved on the JNUL's server. They were saved precisely as they appeared on the day they were downloaded, and most of their functions, such as links, animations or sound are still active. The Internet archive of the elections contains approximately 80 sites: Official sites of all the parties, a selection of forums and a sample of electronic press and candidates' sites. This Internet Archive complements JNUL traditional collections: from the first Knesset elections JNUL collected printed material, such as party platforms and propaganda, published in connection with elections. For the 17th Knesset elections, the JNUL decided to expand the collection to include material in all formats: CDs, videos, TV and radio broadcasts, and material posted on the Internet.
