Gann Academy School Librarian 2011-2012

Gann Academy seeks to hire a school librarian.  Responsibilities 
include oversight of the library budget and resources, collaboration 
with faculty and IT staff in the areas of media and technology, and 
the development and maintenance of the school archive.  Candidates 
should have a master's degree in Library and Information Science; 
concentration in school library media is preferred.  Candidates 
should also have experience working with young adults in a library or 
educational setting.  Knowledge of Hebrew and Judaic reference 
sources is preferred. Experience working with Virtual High School is desirable.

Gann Academy is an independent college preparatory high school with a 
rigorous dual curriculum in general studies and Judaic studies. We

all areas of human potential: intellectual, artistic, spiritual and

Responsibilities:

Organize library resources for maximally effective use, maintaining 
collection through proper cataloging and appropriate weeding.
Oversee library budget to support specific program goals.
Oversee all selection, acquisition, processing, and circulation of 
general and Judaic resources.
Partner with other faculty members to empower students to be critical 
thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, proficient 
users of a variety of media, and ethical consumers of information.
Encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and 
to improve learning, providing continual access to digital 
information resources for the entire learning community.
Collaborate with teachers to provide resources for lesson integration.
Teach information literacy skills in formal and informal settings.
Maintain a supportive and engaging library environment that is 
conducive to student learning.
Promote the library and the use of its resources within the community.
Manage school's media server with regards to content and copyright 
considerations.
Understand copyright, fair use, and ethical use of information, and 
assist faculty and students with their understanding and observance 
of these policies.
Remain current in professional practices and developments, 
information technologies, and educational research applicable to 
school library programs.
Organize and maintain school archives.
Serve as Virtual High School Site Coordinator
Qualifications:

Masters of Library and Information Science degree from an accredited 
program required; concentration in school library media preferred.
Experience working with young adults in a library or educational setting.
Experience with automated circulation/catalog systems and electronic 
databases (experience with MassCat desirable).
Organized and enthusiastic with strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to engage students and work collaboratively and cooperatively 
with colleagues.
Demonstrated understanding and application in the instruction of 21st 
Century Skills.
A life-long learner, displaying a breadth of knowledge and interests 
across many disciplines
Reading knowledge of Hebrew preferred.
Knowledge of Judaic reference sources preferred.
Experience with Virtual High School or other online coursework desirable.
