Dear Safranim:

The Penn Libraries have launched a new website, the *Gershwind-Bennett Isaac Leeser Digitization Project*, featuring access to the personal papers and publications of Isaac Leeser, widely regarded as the foremost American Jewish leader in antebellum America: http://ubuwebser.cajs.upenn.edu/

The site has been developed as an international partnership over the course of seven years and thanks are due to a number of people, families, foundations and institutions, whose names and work are fully acknowledged on the site: http://ubuwebser.cajs.upenn.edu/ilproject.php .

The Leeser site is the first of what we hope will be a continuing number of digital initiatives as part of our *J**esselson-Kaplan American Genizah Project*: http://ubuwebser.cajs.upenn.edu/agproject.php . The Jesselson-Kaplan American Genizah Project, founded in 2006, is an international initiative to integrate digital technologies into the way we study early American Jewry. Its primary goal is to create an open access digital repository or "genizah" of physically dispersed primary sources that document the development of Jewish life in the western hemisphere from the 16th-19th centuries.

My sincere thanks and admiration go to all the talented people who have worked on or otherwise contributed to this project.!

We welcome your feedback as the site continues to evolve.

   Thanks,

   Arthur
