strong emphasis on undergraduate research and offers 40 master's degree
programs and 8 doctoral programs. JMU Libraries include Carrier Library with
collections and services supporting the arts, humanities and social sciences;

health sciences; and the Music Library.

The Humanities Librarian will serve as subject specialist supporting the
teaching and research endeavors of departments in the College of Arts and
Letters (CAL) by providing research, reference and instructional services.
Subject knowledge and development of instructional materials are integral to
the position. Additionally, the successful candidate will develop collections
appropriate to the pedagogical and research needs of the university and will
work closely with other liaison librarians and departmental faculty to
understand and integrate research and curricular needs with the libraries'
collections and services. Partnering with other humanities-based librarians,
this librarian will work to create and sustain strong relationships with the
Collections Department (in particular Special Collections and Digital
Collections), the Center for Instructional Technology and other campus
organizations to support evolving digital humanities campus initiatives. We
welcome applicants with a demonstrated interest in exploring how libraries can
support research related to digital humanities. The successful candidate will
serve as humanities liaison, but will support all disciplines, including
General Education, through reference work. The successful candidate must
demonstrate a strong commitment to service and collaboration and an interest in
supporting undergraduate as well as graduate students.

Required qualifications include a master's degree in Library Science or
equivalent degree from an ALA accredited institution, demonstrated subject
knowledge in humanities disciplines and academic library experience. Preferred
qualifications include a bachelor's degree and/or advanced degree in a
humanities-related discipline and demonstrated investment in technological
skills development to advance and support digital humanities research. We
invite candidates from diverse backgrounds who will contribute affirmatively
and creatively to the university's multicultural environment. Our goal is for
our employees to reflect the rich mix of backgrounds, life experiences,
cultures, perspectives and world views that is found within our university
community.

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a tenure-track faculty position
with excellent benefits including 20 days of vacation and a choice of
retirement plans. Review of applications will begin on May 29, 2015 and
continue until the position is filled. JMU Libraries endorses the ACRL
Standards for Faculty Status for Academic Libraries. Faculty Status requires
potential to meet standards for tenure and promotion. To apply go to
