Hi Paul, One textbook on algorithms with a functional approach is by Fethi Rabhi and Guy Lapalme: "Algorithms: A functional programming approach" published by Addison-Wesley, 235 pages, ISBN 0-201-59604-0
I'd imagine they wouldn't use many OCR unfriendly characters. "Purely Functional Data Structures" by Chris Okasaki, is also a classic.
