Hello folks, A local kernel root exploit for all Linux kernels up to 2.6.24.1 has been recently published on Slashdot, along with a link to an actual exploit source code that works out-of-the-box.
This has prompted for immediate kernel patching, recompilation and an unscheduled Mire reboot. The reboot was successful and Mire was back in working order in about 5 minutes. However, the patch, even though from official kernel sources, was for some reason insufficient and did not fix the security problem. At this point, things began to complicate, resulting in Mire having been offline for the past hour, impacting shell access and member-hosted websites. Expect another -announce message and the problem summary when we get the the system back on line.
