Tim and Greg's suggestions are good ones (using Amazon S3 or Aspera via
Windows). I believe the Aspera plugin for Linux is still the older NPAPI style
plugin, which Chrome no longer supports. The Windows plugin is a PPAPI style
plugin which is supported. You might have some success with Firefox, which
will still run NPAPI plugins, however it's crashing on my vm when it tries to
download. I usually do my downloads on Windows as well.

When I navigate to the Aspera download site
http://downloads.asperasoft.com/connect2/ via Chrome in Ubuntu, I'm told Aspera
Connect is not supported by my version of Chrome. Firefox, on my vm, says
Aspera is installed, and ConnectomeDB also shows it as installed, but it is
crashing on download.

Regards,

Mike

Subject: Re: [HCP-Users] Having problems with installing aspera, upgrade
chromium, download data for doing tutorials with workbench....

I use an Ubuntu 15.04 VM. My Ubuntu VM is running with Windows 7 as the host
operating system. Even from back when I used Ubuntu 14.04 or Ubuntu 14.10, I
have never been able to succeed in getting Aspera to work with either Chromium
or Firefox when running in my Ubuntu VM. Even after successfully executing the
Aspera installation script and getting an installation complete message, the
browser still complains that I do not have the Aspera plug-in for downloading.

When I need to do an Aspera-based download, I typically fire up a browser under
the control of Windows (not in the VM) and download the file to a folder that
is shared with the VM (or download the file and then move it to a folder that
is shared between the host system and the VM). The Aspera plug in has worked
fine for me that way.

Hope that is somewhat helpful,

  Tim

Just a note, I was never able to get aspera to work properly in ubuntu 14.04.
Instead I used dragon disk to connect to the amazon server directly and it
worked very well.

With a .sh file, you don't use "apt-get install", it is a script that you run
directly in a terminal:

./aspera-connect-3.6.0.106805-linux-64.sh<http://aspera-connect-3.6.0.106805-linux-64.sh>

Installing Aspera Connect

Deploying Aspera Connect (/home/tim/.aspera/connect) for the current user only.
Restart firefox manually to load the Aspera Connect plug-in

Install complete.

Dear Caret and Workbench team,

I have registered to workbench and I I had downloaded workbench for linux
64bits....ok...no problem with this...and with the tutorial...the problem is
when trying to download your images in order to do the tutorials.....

The problem is with downloading the data it aks me for intaslling aspera and
other plugin....with the other I tell that yes, but it tells me that is not
supported and with aspera tells me something similar. I am working in a Virtual
Maxine, with UBUNTU 14.04 and Neurodebian installed....any suggestion to cope
with this problem? I have tried to update chromium in the neurodebian package
but it has been impossible...I have directly gone to the aspera web page and I
have downloaded it...a file.sh...but I try to execute it and nothing seems to
work... (I have aspera in my Destktop...). I have wrote in my shell: sudo
apt-get install (and all the name of
aspera:aspera-connect-3.6.1.110647-linux-64.sh<http://aspera-connect-3.6.1.110647-linux-64.sh>
but nothing works well....I have to install plugins for chromium and I don't
find how to do it, although I have been looking for in internet...it seems that
I have to change some options in my chromium but those options does not
appear...

The other question is that you say that you no longer actively develop Caret,
but I need to do a tutorial with the last version and download the images
necessary for doing this....any suggestion with this would be highly
appreciate....? I would lilke to do tutorials with caret as well as workbench...

Yours sincerely,

Rosalia.
