(1) I just saw the link error and assumed it was related since this patch was
doing some changes around the relevant methods. If it is not, then no worries.
(2) If there are no other usages I think your proposal is fine. {{Client}} is
marked as {{Public}} but {{Evolving}}, and this a package-private method. We
are allowed to break compatibility at minor releases.
Ping [~shv] again now that the patch is pretty well stabilized.
