Dear Caroline,
Actually the proposal for Judeo-German is to remove it as a cross-reference to German in the MARC Code for languages. Currently two inaccurate references exist under the subject heading :Yiddish language": German Hebrew and Judeo-German language (I am not going to deal with the cross-refernce Jewish language here). Recommendations to remove these two cross-references can be made by using the

LCSH Authority Record Change Proposal Form  found at the SACO website.
I hope that one of us will do this after we see what happens at the meeting.

That is a good question re Maher's book. Certainly a web-based version would be nice but I doubt if one exists at this time. I think that even more than a web-based version, we are waiting for an official updated version (print or electronic).

Heidi and Heb-NACOers,

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend AJL this year so I hope you don't mind my input via the list.

If Daniel is successful at getting Judeo-German removed from the subject authority record under Yiddish then will he be proposing a new SACO for Judeo-German (that can get hastened along through CPSO)?  If so then Judeo-German should remain on the Yiddish record but changed to a 550.  It seems counter-productive to remove it altogether.

In case anyone cares, I vote yes on adding Kuntres, etc. to the Sefer rule.

Will Maher's Hebraica Cataloging be available in the web version of Cataloger's Desktop?  I didn't see it in the beta version.  If it is available in the production version then maybe it could be updated on a regular basis without too much fuss.  Or, even better, maybe it could be made freely available through the Hebraica Funnel website or the PCC website?

We have three agenda items so far:

1) draft proposal for romanization table for Judeo-Arabic - Joan Biella

2) proposal to remove "Judeo-German" as a cross-reference to "Yiddish" in
the MARC Code List for Languages - Daniel Lovins

3) Expanding rules for "Sefer" (Maher, Hebraica cataloging, p. 45) to
also include Kuntres, Maamar, Mahberet - Heidi Lerner

Please let me know if you have any other topics that you would like to
have on the agenda.

Thanks!
