Hello, everyone,

I'm looking forward to working on HelenOS as part of Google Summer of
Code! I live in Cary, North Carolina, I'm about to get my Bachelor's
from NC State, and I have an interest in low-level code. My project is
to create a portable library and tools for working with structured
binary data such as files and packets. Some of the more interesting
parts are an interactive structure browser and a domain-specific
language for describing binary structures. A major focus of my project
will be on flexibility and modularity, so it will be useful for tasks
ranging from debugging filesystems to inspecting the memory of running
tasks. I have more detail about my overall approach at the GSoC page[0].

I have exams and final projects to deal with for the next week or two,
but I'll have some time to start working on this project. This community
bonding period will include getting to know the HelenOS developers and
learning more about HelenOS and Bazaar. I will also investigate related
existing projects, think of data structures that will be interesting or
difficult to deal with, and try to think of a better project name. I
plan to begin work in earnest on the 14th.

I will post frequent status reports and review requests to the mailing
list during the project. I would suggest posting once a week to help
keep things moving, unless that would be too much noise. I've also
created a wiki page[1] to keep track of my thoughts and design ideas.

What do you think about my plan so far?

Thanks,
Sean Bartell
