Yes, I agree that would be an ideal solution. I envisioned future addition of something like that when finishing the initial implementation of compositor last year. However, it is not entirely trivial to implement such map and I will not have time to do it in the near future (of course anybody can implement it if they like the idea). Therefore, I proposed the keyboard combo as a temporary quick solution to the seemingly pressing concern of disappearing mouse pointer.
