just to support Jiri's case, preserving the order of primary partitions and "unknown" flags in MBR is indeed necessary. Even if modern OSes can use filesystem labels and UUIDs to identify their filesystems and are no longer picky about the flags, many people still choose for various reasons to rely on the explicit ordering and flags.

The label editor might have an explicit command for sorting the partition entries or pruning "unknown" records (and this might be actually quite handy in certain cases), but generally it should not touch anything that is not strictly necessary to touch.

To paraphrase Jiri's takeaway: Be permissive on the input, but conservative on the output.
