Also, the EPERM could be a result of some non-standard IPC situation, such as when one of the servers dies unexpectedly and the other one is still trying to talk to it. As for the non-determinism, it may be caused by the existence of the block cache when the success of the block operations depends on the previous operations (the state of the cache is different and so is the result).
