Hi Vojta,
the deadline for GSoC application is this Friday and the list of ideas [gsoc14] is still not very long. Furthermore, the tickets there are recycled ones from previous years. Maybe we shall drop some of them and add some new ones.
Recycling ideas from previous year is not necessarily bad, if the tickets are still relevant. However, adding new ideas is definitively a good idea :) I have a few on my mind, too.
With respect to the GSoC application itself, I have already the first draft and I plan to submit it to Melange today or tomorrow.
New programs/servers * our own FTP server
FTP should be rather dead for 20 years or so :) Why not implementing something more robust, like SFTP or 9P?
* bdsh improvements (loops, variables, pipes)
Sounds good, but I wouldn't extend bdsh. This calls for a new shell designed from scratch.
Drivers * I already created ticket [571] for graphical output on Raspberry Pi. But it still needs polishing.
We could also support DisplayLink USB devices that would provide graphical output on any platform that has a USB.
So, which ones of these shall we promote for GSoC? Or, are some of these inappropriate for GSoC because of their difficulty? Or do you have some other ideas that would be worth suggesting?
Generally, all your ideas seem to be reasonable to me. If you have the time, you can just create plain simple tickets for them and tag them with gsoc14. Later on, anyone can refine the tickets and if some of the ideas stay unrefined, I'll remove the tag prior to the GSoC application deadline.
