Intel HDA ticket was created by jiri few days ago, so I added one for AC'97. I'm not sure if we can find a real AC'97 device unless someone keeps ancient hw around. OTOH we have a ticket for AMD Lance too, so it's not alone in the museum department.
I believe that I have a few AC'97 sound cards. I even have the original Sound Blaster 16, but I currently have no working PC with an ISA bus.
Speaking about the museum department, we have a few tickets in this category. But I think it is still useful as long as there are emulators that emulate such devices.
I'll certainly help, but i'm not sure if i am able to make full-time commitment.
First we need to be accepted for GSoC and get some project proposals. So let's deal with this if/when the time comes.
I think I'll just create tickets for the 1-2 broken devices I have access to. Although, it would be nice to get someone who is interested in the USB gadget side drivers. especially the HID library is heading in the "no one knows how it works and no one touches it" direction.
In case you don't have the time to create a full-fledged GSoC ticket, just create any ticket or update the Contemplated Features page on the wiki [1] so that good ideas don't get lost in the mailing list.
