Hi All :)
My name is Agnieszka Tabaka and I would like to participate in GSoC 2014
for HelenOS. I have background in C/C++ programming, including
understanding low-level stuff ("talking to hardware") and required
networking knowledge. It will be a great opportunity for me to learn about
writing device drivers and HelenOS internals. I'm interested in following
ideas:
- Driver for the family of Realtek Gigabit Ethernet network cards
- Driver for AMD Lance network card clone
Which of these two drivers has the higher priority, eg. is more "wanted" in
HelenOS? Both of them are popular and such cards can be probably bought
used for a few bucks. Both of them have documentation available - Am79...
are very well documented and have publicly available manual, for Realtek,
I've found a manual for RTL8169 "in the depths of Internet" and there's
article about it on osdev.net. There are also many open-source
implementations of drivers for that chips, which can serve as some form of
documentation.
Thank you,
Agnieszka
