Hello folks,
this email concerns the organization of Google Summer of Code (GSoC)
2014 Reunion in the realm of HelenOS.
As you are probably aware, Google organizes an unconference for the
mentoring organizations participating in Google Summer of Code every
year. This year the official name of the unconference is not "Mentor
Summit", but "Reunion", it is going to be a larger event and there are
also some other differences [1].
Every GSoC mentoring organization is allowed to send two delegates to
this event (*). Originally we have planed to delegate Jakub Jermar and
me for this year's event, but Jakub declined and therefore we are
looking for a replacement. Maurizio Lombardi expressed interest
previously, but if I interpret the definition of "delegate" correctly
[2], only current or past active GSoC mentors, students or organization
administrators are eligible. Sorry, Maurizio.
Therefore, if you are interested, please let me know ASAP.
There is one more thing. I understand that my email might be somewhat on
a short notice for those who didn't get this information from other
sources earlier, but it is just a friendly reminder that the GSoC 2014
Reunion Lottery [3] deadline is on Monday June 16th.
GSoC 2014 Reunion Lottery allows anybody who has participated in the
current or past GSoC (in any role -- mentor or student) to ask for
joining the Reunion, even if they are not chosen as the organization
official delegates.
There are two pitfalls: (a) It is a lottery system, therefore you have
to try your luck to be selected. (b) Even if selected, you still have to
cover your own travel expenses, Google will only pay for the meals and
direct costs related to the event.
(*) Actually, there is a possibility to put more people on a wait list
in case some other organizations leave an empty slot. But let's skip the
technicalities.
