It seems that the reason for my problems was some registry keys remaining after a previous EmacsW32 installation.

Thanks. It does not work, propbably for the same reasons as the Explorer
way.
I would like to be able to do file associations from Explorer.

Also if you wish you can use EmacsW32 or EmacsPortable to manage
associations.

Actually, I am trying to avoid these. Until now I have used EmacsW32 but
I would like to use the base version. Mainly, because EmacsW32 is not
maintained actively anymore.
