Vinay suggests above that a yurt should have two doors for fire safety. To
me a door suggests a fairly complex assembly designed to be opened
repeatedly and easily closed from either side. I was wondering about
creating a simple "fire escape" instead - just a large circular cut in the
wall opposite the door, mitered so it can be pushed outwards, and taped in
place from the inside using a single piece of tape with exposed tabs. It
might make sense to tape it partway but not all the way on the other side,
so it can still be pushed out by hand but holds in place a little better.
Would that meet the safety requirement? Would it let in dust, or harm the
integrity of the yurt?

Planning on building my first yurt - a Camp Danger-style H12 - as soon as
the tape arrives. I've done lots of Googling and I have lots of questions,
but I'll break them into separate emails for ease of threading. If you
prefer that this group be reserved for more experienced voices, just say
and I'll direct my questions elsewhere - thanks!
