8 October 2003 (Wednesday) *MERCY Malaysia Launches Flood Relief Missions to Northern Region*
Due to the worsening flood situation in the northern region, we have sent a team of 4 to provide immediate relief and assess the current condition. Our team has reported that there is immediate needs for medical and humanitarian aid. The type of assistance to be given will include mobile clinic services and distribution of basic needs e.g food, clothing, blankets.
MERCY Malaysia urgently appeals to members of the public to contribute to the Flood Relief for Northern Region which will be launched today. Public contribution is URGENTLY needed in the form of:
1. Cash 2. Blankets 3. Mattress/ Mat 4. Food – dry foods, mineral waters, milk powder 5. Clothing (clean, usable and in good condition)
Collection Centres to send contribution :
1. Car park at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, Ampang
*And*
2. Dewan Orang Ramai Ampang Jaya, Taman Ampang Jaya
Collection begins today, Wednesday, 8 October until Saturday 11 October 2003.
MERCY Malaysia is also seeking help from volunteers for packing and logistics and to receive donations and assist in receiving calls at our call centre.
We will also need medical volunteers e.g doctors, nurses, paramedics to be sent to the relief areas and run the mobile clinics.
Cheque contribution should be made out to 'MERCY Humanitarian Fund’. Please write ‘Flood Relief for Northern Region’ at the back of the cheque.
