Even if you did a periodic acid-methenamine silver stain (PASM, Jones), which in my opinion is the best histology stain, since it is a silver stain, you can get different thicknesses of basement membrane (bm) by leaving it in longer or shorter than is optimal for that patient's bm thickness.
