While I know upgrading versions of the JDK is a HUGE step in any
project, is it wise to make that a requirement now? I, personally, use
1.5 for all my development and having source compatibility with 1.3
should alleviate many concerns, but I've also seen a lot of messages
indicating a tie to pre-1.5 that might not be easily overcome at the
present moment.

I'm still stuck on a Mac, where 1.5 isn't an option, sadly. Personally, I'm comfortable as long as I can use the binaries... Much though I'd /like/ to have the time to contribute, my day job workload is approaching infinity. That said, this would obviously make that decision a fait accomplis for any other Mac users out there for the time being, which seems a shame.

I guess I'm a non-binding +1 overall, unless lots of other mac users suddenly put their oar in and say they think this is going to cause them pain.
