Malaysian political hopefuls turn to bathing ritual
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (AFP) - Some Malaysian political
hopefuls are putting their faith in traditional rituals
including one called 'the bath with seven different flowers,'
a report said Thursday.
A number of people hoping to become candidates for
their parties in elections on November 29 have visited a 'bomoh'
traditional healer in the central state of Selangor, the Sun newspaper said.
"They know that this election will be a tough one.
So I try to help them the way I can," healer Sabar Jihin
was quoted as saying.
He said some would-be candidates had asked him conduct
the "mandi tujuh bunga" -- the bath with seven different flowers.
The person immerses themselves three times in a river
while chanting verses from the Koran, Sabar said.
"He then removes his clothes and throws them into the
water over his head and walks out without looking back," he said.
The ritual is intended to cleanse a person of bad
luck and restore good luck, he said, adding he had been
visited by hopefuls from three states.
