Musa to probe alleged police violence against 'Black 14' detainees

Malaysia seeks to limit UN special rapporteur's term

1pm, MON: The Malaysian government last week launched a thinly-veiled attack on the Special Rapporteur on Independence of Judges and Lawyers, Param Cumaraswamy, in a bid to prevent his re-appointment by the United Nations Human Rights Commission. According to social reform group Aliran representative, Deborah Stothard, at the current session of the commission in Geneva, Malaysian Ambassador Hamidon Ali relied on technical points to support his argument that special rapporteurs should not have their tenures extended beyond two terms. PBS defectors described as betrayers of people's trust

7.30pm, MON: The defections of the six assemblymen, led by Jeffrey Kitinggan, from opposition Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) to Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) has been described as "a betrayal of the people's trust" by KeADILan vice president Tian Chua. He called on them to resign their seats instead. "Since the six defectors were elected as PBS candidates, they are morally obliged to resign and allow the people to decide the rightful representatives," Chua said in a statement to malaysiakini today.
