Court dismisses Anwar's corruption appeal
9:30am, SAT: Jailed deputy prime minister Anwar
Ibrahim lost his appeal against his corruption
conviction. In a brief two-sentence statement, Court
of Appeal president Lamin Yunos dismissed both appeals
on conviction and sentence. "I proposed not to read
the judgment. Appeal dismissed on both conviction and
sentence," said Lamin, despite having written a
50-page judgment. Anwar immediately stood up in court
and asked the judge, "Is that possible to give some
resemblance to what the decision is on? It is a very
important case. Just spend 30 minutes." Lamin
responded, "I don't want to hear anything" before
